You are cordially
invited to join us for our fifth Wandertag! This
time Klaus will take you to one of the prettiest
hikes near Portland:
Mirror
Lake
On Sunday, July 18, at 9:30 a.m.
we will meet at the Trailhead (see map on flyer),
located on the right side of Highway 26, about 8
miles east of Rhododendron and 1 mile west of Government
Camp. There is ample parking, but it fills up fast on a
Sunday in August (hence the early hour), and you
must display a Recreation Pass (see below) at the
vehicle.
We will hike to Mirror Lake, where some can rest or enjoy
the loop around the lake, others might want to continue for another
1.6 miles to a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the lake and the
South side of Mt. Hood, and meet up again with the entire group at
the lake. No water on the trail Bring own liquids!
Parking: A Northwest Forest pass is required to park at this trailhead.
You can buy the annual pass for $30 or a day pass for $5.00. Some
of you might have lifetime passes for seniors. Day passes are sold
at the Thriftway store just after the intersection of Highway 26 and
Welches Road (East of 76 Gas Station, at the bottom of the ascent
to Government Camp) or at the Chevron Gas Station at the Eastern edge
of Government Camp. In Portland: Both REI stores and Mountain Shop
sell permits, so may other outdoor recreation stores.
Also: Do not forget our war cry: WALK AND TALK! Some
participants are eager to try out their German conversation skills.
Talk to them, get to know them!
Please register for this adventure at the Society’s business
office (email or
call Norah 503-775-1585).
We need to have an approximate idea how many people might come. That is also
the place where perhaps carpooling can be arranged.
